Special to the Review
Make A Difference Day is a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Volunteers working together to make a difference in someone's life. If only for a day. One day can “Make A Difference.”
The Cedar Creek Lake Rotary Club will be organizing the local Make A Difference Day on Saturday Oct. 20. All Make A Difference projects should be completed by Saturday, Oct. 27.
The  Rotary Club will host a luncheon on Friday, Sept. 28 for non-profit groups to come to the Rotary's weekly meeting, to either ask for help, or let the club know what they will be doing to make a difference in someone's life.
The luncheon will be at Vetoni's Italian Restaurant at noon. The Rotary Club invites anyone who would like to help with Make A Difference Day, or has something they would like to tell the group they need help with.
During previous years, the community stepped up, and did some amazing things.  Some of the things in past years including the fact that the community helped with filling the bus with food, repairing porches, free-paper shredding, and some volunteers did hair and nails at Mabank Nursing home.
Those are just a few of the many projects the lake-area residents did during Make A Difference Day.
Anyone can volunteer, including non-profit organizations, students, churches, companies and  any individual may participate. The Cedar Creek Lake Rotary Club just wants to meet the needs  of the community, if only for a day.
Again this year, the Kaufman County Environmental Co-Op,  along with the Rotary Club and Tri-County Ford in Mabank, will sponsor a free electronic waste-collection event at the Pavilion in Mabank.
If you have old computers, television, telephones, fax machines or any electronic, this would be the day to dispose of them. The service is free.
Some of the items they will be accepting are computers, laptops, printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, servers, main-frame units, networking equipment, systems, printed circuit boards, telephones, cellular phones, stereos, DVD players and other consumer electronics. Microwaves, monitors and televisions will also be accepted, free of charge.
The electronic-waste event will be held on Saturday Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. until noon. The trash pickup at the Pavallion will last until 3 p.m.
Also available will be a paper shredder. If you have old paper documents you don't want to end up in the wrong hands, they will be shredded as you wait.
The Cedar Creek Lake Rotary Club every year strives to Make A Difference Day the best one yet. This year is no different.
